Learn the most current and up to date information on the basics of food preservation that includes hot water bath canning, freezing, pressure canning and food dehydration. An overview will be provided followed by question and answers based on the latest research information from the University of Wisconsin Extension.

  • What are the current recommended food preservation practices?
  • When should you pressure can foods? What is a steam canner?
  • Why do vegetables need to be blanched before freezing?
  • If you find food preservation guidelines on the internet, are all the recommendations safe?
  • What do you do with food preservation practices that Grandma passed on to you –are they still safe?

Learn the answers to these and other questions at the Food Preservation Update! Contact Karen Dickrell karen.dickrell@wisc.edu for more information.
