Plant ID and Help

If you have questions about a plant, plant insect or disease contact Kaitlin Bricco, Horticulture Educator, at Kaitlin.bricco@outagamie.org. Because we are working remotely, leaving samples is difficult. The best, and quickest, method of communication is through email.

Please Include:

  • Name
  • Contact information
  • Photo of the plant or insect, if possible
  • Any other information that you think may be pertinent such as:
    • For plant identification:
      • Environment (Sun vs. Shade)
      • Approximate dimensions of plant
      • Any visible fruiting or flowering
      • Did you plant it or did it appear on its own?
      • Is it an indoor plant or outdoor plant?
    • For plant disease or insect damage*:
      • Is there a pattern to the damage / disease?
      • When did you first notice the problem?
      • Any color variations of the plant tissue
    • For insect identification**:
      • Approximate size
      • What plant (if any) is the insect feeding on?
      • Color

**Note: Extension does not handle home or health related insects such as bedbugs, lice, fleas, or ticks. Please contact your local health department or medical service.
